Guy Sebastian Releases New Single 'Set In Stone'

June 2024 · 2 minute read

After winning Australian Idol in 2003, Guy Sebastian has gone on to become one of the biggest-selling Australian artists of all time. With his debut single still being the fastest-selling single in ARIA chart history, forty-two platinum, and three gold certifications, it’s safe to say that the man is one of Australia’s biggest success stories. His success doesn’t stop there, though: his 2013 single ‘Battle Scars’ went platinum in the United States, making Guy one of only a handful of Australian artists to ever achieve this.

And while Guy might be busy nowadays being a judge on the Australian X Factor (alongside Mel B, Iggy Azalea, and Adam Lambert – how cool!), that doesn’t mean he has put his music career on hold. This week, Guy released his brand new single ‘Set In Stone’ and boy, is it a good one.

The inspiration for the song came when Guy was on a songwriting trip in Bali. There, the singer witnessed a harrowing incident that led to one of those lightbulb moments, where you find yourself contemplating and appreciating the life that you have.

Guy explains: “You know, there are a lot of things in life that are fleeting, there are a lot of things that come and go, people that come and go and experiences that come and go, but then there’s those things that are there forever. The people that are there forever that support you and love you. This song is all about holding onto those things – the tough dark times as well as the great & exciting times and prioritising them.”

Working with songwriters Stuart Crichton and Taylor Parks (Usher, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj), producer M-Phazes (Eminem), and mixing engineer Miles Walker (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher), Guy managed to turn the experience into a song that is as wonderful musically as it is lyrically. With ‘Set In Stone’, Guy Sebastian once again proves that he’s one of Australia’s most talented artists, showcasing not just his songwriting abilities, but also his immense vocal talent.

‘Set In Stone’ is currently number one on the Australian iTunes. You can watch the video for the song below – don’t forget to let us know what you think over on Twitter at @CelebMix!
