Erling Haaland suffers foot injury, out for Manchester City at Luton Town

June 2024 · 2 minute read

Erling Haaland will not be involved for Manchester City for their trip to Luton Town on Sunday afternoon.

The Norway international — top scorer in the Premier League with 14 goals — is absent with a foot injury as the champions look to bounce back from four games without a win.

He had, until Sunday, started every league game for City so far this season.

City are without a win in four games having drawn with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in consecutive matches before losing 1-0 at Aston Villa on Wednesday.

They currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, seven points behind leaders Liverpool.

Addressing Haaland’s injury ahead of the game at Kenilworth Road, Pep Guardiola said: “A bone stress reaction in his foot and after the last game he felt it. He cannot play.

“I don’t know (the length of the injury). Week by week, day by day, we will see what happens.

“We play with 11 that’s for sure. Erling has been so important since he’s arrived that’s for sure. But during the season we see this sort of thing. Injuries, suspensions, problems, we have to adapt.

Julian Alvarez will be playing (as our centre forward).”

Haaland joined from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022 and went on to break the Premier League goalscoring record with 36 goals in 35 appearances before helping City lift both the FA Cup and Champions League.
