Aldi $5 Elsmburys potato pies shoppers raving about

Aldi has sparked yet another food frenzy over a freezer item.

In April, all the rave was about its $4.49 Urban Eats Greek Style Pastizzis, and now fans have discovered an equally satisfying and easy-to-make snack – none other than the humble Aussie pie.

But not just any pie: Elsmbury’s Angus Beef Potato Pie which is essentially a cottage pie of Angus beef topped with plenty of creamy mashed potato.

One Aldi shopper shared a TikTok video salivating over the $4.99 winter food, and she wasn’t the only one to declare “how good” they tasted.

“Have you tried the Aldi potato pies?” she begins the video.

“They come in a two-pack for $4.99 and they’re one of my favourite things to get from Aldi.”

The woman, who goes by the name of Emily on the social media platform, then goes on to describe how “super fluffy” the potato topping is.

“The pies are just delicious and really easy to make. Look at that, it just looks amazing.”

Part of the reason for its popularity is that it takes the hassle out of preparing the winter favourite – and in this case, it involves simply taking it out of the packaging and just whacking it in the oven for 40 minutes.

“They are the best. Regular on my shopping list,” one person commented.

“Yes they’re awesome,” said another, while a third added: “I’ve tried them and they’re yummy.”

“We love them, so good. I love the chicken and leek Camembert sauce pies too, you should try them,” one person suggested.

As Emily topped the pie with some good ol’ tomato sauce, others recommended she try it with cheese.

“Yummm I need to do that too,” Emily responded.

Others were extra excited to hear the pies were made in Australia and were keen to give it a go for that reason.

“They are made in Australia – it says so on the box,” Emily told one TikTok user who questioned its authenticity.

“Awesome! I’m gonna try them then,” they replied.

Aldi fans have also been raving about the German retailer’s pre-packaged potato bake from Market Fare which retails for the same price at $4.99.

“The kids loved it. I will be keeping some for back-up in the freezer,” one woman wrote on Facebook.

One mum said she adds bacon and cream to hers while another said the secret to perfecting the pre-made bake was adding bechamel sauce on top.
